What is CBD?

Cannabidiol or “CBD” is the largest phytochemical compound in the cannabis/hemp plant.  It's a naturally occurring substance that's used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm.  Why are cannabinoids so important for our health?  Because they interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a complex network of cannabinoid receptors and neurotransmitters located in the brain, central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, and immune system. The ECS controls a wide range of biological functions, such as memory, cognitive performance, pain perception, stress management, mood regulation, and immune response etc.

Unlike its cousin tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, Hemp CBD does not have a psychoactive effect. In fact, it’s quite the opposite!  Studies show that CBD will actually counteract the psychoactive effects of THC!  You've probably heard the terms cannabis, marijuana, and hemp all tossed around in relation to CBD.  The plant Cannabis Sativa has two primary species, hemp and marijuana. Both contain CBD, but there's a much higher percentage in hemp, which also has very low (less than 0.3%) levels of THC compared to marijuana.

What are the uses for CBD?

The list of medicinal and therapeutic benefits contributed by CBD continues to increase as more research is authorized and performed. CBD has been shown to remedy, treat, and manage a variety of ailments, conditions, discomforts, and numerous disorders.  We have been asked to take down this list by the FTC and BBB.  We will leave that up to the consumer's critical thinking skills as to why that is.  We encourage the consumer to do their research.

Is Hemp the same as Marijuana?

While sharing the Cannabis genus (a sub-family classification), hemp and marijuana are two very distinct plant species with shared and varying cannabidiol compounds and benefits. Hemp products contain little to no THC, and therefore are 100% legal in all 50 states.

An automotive parallel can further portray the relationship between genus and species. The genus would be Ford (cannabis); examples of species being car or truck (hemp or marijuana).

How does The Cats Meow CBD differ from other CBD products on the market?

Why should I buy yours?

The Cats Meow CBD began when we were searching for a product that we would use for ourselves and our family – a product that is legal, transparent, organic, plant-derived, medicinal-grade, solvent/metals-free, non-GMO and provides active mg’s of CBD.   Unfortunately, many of the CBD products sold on the market today have little to no Cannabidiol (CBD), falling far short of the product label claims. Making matters worse, the hemp used as the base of these products may contain contaminants like certain molds and/or solvents/heavy metals and the end products may have artificial colors and flavors.

This led us to partner with our grower/vendor in CO with whom we formed a partnership with to grow, cultivate, and harvest our market-leading organic,  medicinal-grade CBD-rich hemp oil which is the foundation of our product line. We are healthcare practitioner owned and understand the value and importance of a high quality product.  We will never carry anything that we would not be willing to use ourselves or with our family.

How is The Cats Meow CBD product derived?

All of our CBD is derived from organically grown industrial hemp.  We only source from domestic hemp growers that do not utilize any GMO's, pesticide, or insecticides, confirmed by 3rd party lab tests.  It is important to only consume clean and pure CBD products because the presence of impurities drastically affects how much CBD your body is able to absorb not to mention consumption of said impurities.

All of our products are third party lab tested, and do not contain any pesticides, microbial growth, or residual solvents.

You can read more about the categories of CBD in our Beginner's Guide to Hemp CBD . All of our products are either THC free or have below the legal limit of .03% THC. Our THC free products are clearly marked with our THC free logo.
Why is decarboxylation important?

In order decarboxylation is necessary to convert CBDa to useable CBD.  CBDa has been found to be great for pain, therefore we decarboxylate at a lower temperature to keep some of the CBDa in our formulas.  Decarboxylation is also important for purification.

What are Terpenes?
Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum CBD extracts include Terpenes from the plant. Terpenes are volatile molecules that are responsible for a unique aroma profile of plants, fruits, vegetables and spices. There are more than 200 terpenes in cannabis which, like cannabinoids, also bind to different receptors in the body and play a big role in boosting the therapeutic effect of CBD.

You can read more about the science and healing benefits behind various Terpenes and also Full Spectrum Cannabinoids here https://www.maximumyield.com/the-top-6-types-of-terpenes-found-in-cannabis/2/4934

What is nanoemulsification?

CBD solutions become nanoemulsified by having the CBD molecular chains further broken down into smaller segments (nanometers) which increases the surface area of the CBD at the molecular level. Nanoemulsion technology is an exciting development and is being used in medicine as an advanced drug delivery system. Making CBD oil into a nanoemulsion effectively renders the CBD oil water soluble, depending on particle size.

One main benefit of nanoemulsified CBD is that there is more surface area of CBD molecules to be absorbed by the bloodstream. Because the body is largely water, the water solubility of the nanoemulsified CBD makes it more absorbable by the body. Therefore the CBD will be more “bio-available",  meaning that a higher percentage of the total milligrams consumed will be actually absorbed into the bloodstream. Another benefit of our nanoemulsified tinctures is that they do not need to be shaken and will remain shelf stable.

Please note: nano tinctures with flavoring will need to be shaken.

What is the difference between milligram strengths?

These dosage amounts identify the tangible amount of ACTIVE CBD in the product. A + on our products indicates there is more, per lab testing, than the labeled amount of ACTIVE mg in the product.

How is The Cats Meow CBD extracted?

The Cats Meow CBD uses CO2 extraction for all of our products. CO2 extraction does not overly heat the plant and is the least harsh way of extracting the oil, therefore retaining all of the cannabinoids and terpenes that work together in your body. Inferior methods produce a less pure/potent CBD quality.

What is the carrier oil used?

We use MCT (coconut oil) or non-GMO vegetable glycerin as the carrier in our tinctures.  This is clearly marked on our ingredients list.  Other companies use inferior vegetable oils, or other oils that oxidize over time, causing harm to your body.

Can I drive while taking CBD?

How CBD affects a person will vary. Weight, personal metabolism, body fat, and dosage size will all be contributing factors. Unlike Cannabis, hemp CBD is non-psychoactive but we recommend trying CBD when you are home so you can see how your body responds.

Can I take my prescriptions with CBD?

There is no documented data to support any known interferences with CBD and prescriptions. We always recommend checking with your physician.

Are there any side effects?

There are no real side effects to CBD use other than a calming relaxing feeling reported by many people who have used these products. It is always recommended to start with a lower amount when starting until you understand how it affects your body. We always recommend checking with your physician.

Are The Cats Meow CBD products safe for pets?

The Cats Meow CBD has an extensive pet line.  They are family!  Like humans, our pets have endocannabinoid systems within their bodies that makes it possible for them to experience the same CBD benefits that you would enjoy yourself.  Therefore their systems respond very well to the introduction of CBD to their bodies.

Is CBD legal?

The legality of CBD truly lies in the origination of the CBD oil (cannabidiol). CBD can be derived from two distinct sources which is where the bulk of confusion over legality lies. If the plant being used for CBD cultivation is a THC producing plant, it is illegal including the CBD. CBD oil can also be derived from the industrial hemp plant, which according to Section 7606 of the Farm Bill defines industrial hemp as “the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.” All of our products are below the legal limit of <.03% THC and our THC free products are clearly marked. We always back up our CBD with labwork and third party testing and all of our CBD has 0 or less than .3% THC content. So, to avoid confusion and help educate consumers, we do not sell CBD oil sourced from marijuana. We sell CBD-rich hemp oil, which as with any industrial hemp product, is legal in all 50 states.

How much CBD should I take?

The right dose of CBD varies from person to person and from pet to pet. When beginning CBD, it’s best to start with the smallest dose possible. Please see our Beginners Guide to Hemp CBD page for further details. Everyone reacts differently to various supplements. As with any new product, it is important to become familiar with how your body responds to CBD before increasing the dosage. Generally speaking larger individuals may prefer a higher dose of CBD than smaller people. If you have a medical condition, always consult with your physician.
